Join us for the next in the NY-LON series of live video seminars taking place simultaneously in London and New York, this time exploring how both cities are coping with increased pressure for tall residential towers.

In London, a report just published by NLA has found proposals for over 230 new tall buildings over 20 storeys, 80 per cent of which are residential, which if all complete will have a significant impact on the largely historic skyline of the UK capital. While the skyline of New York looks very different to London, here there are also similar pressures to build ‘super tall’ residential towers, highlighted in the Accidental Skyline report by The Municipal Art Society of New York.

The event will compare the rise in this building typology, what is driving this demand and examine how both cities are responding, through planning, design and public realm strategies, to ensure these tall buildings bring the benefits they should. Two presentations in each city will be followed by time for questions and discussion between the two cities.

The seminar is organised by NLA – London’s Centre for the Built Environment and Kohn Pedersen Fox, in association with New York’s Forum + Institute for Urban Design, and is the fifth in a series exploring some of the key issues facing both cities and sharing best practice case-studies with the aim of fostering cross-city dialogue and learning.

This event is free to attend but advance registration is necessary. Breakfast will be served from 08:30 and the event will start promptly at 09:00.
