Profile Bio:
Mr. Rui Qian holds Master of Landscape Architecture degree from Harvard GSD, and Master of Urban Design degree from TCAUP, University of Michigan. The unique academic experience with GSD and TCAUP has been really enriching him in professional thinking and practice skills, also along with a great opportunity to introduce the academic context, pedagogies, and methodologies of Urban Design / Landscape Architecture to China, in terms of working with Professor Roy Strickland and Professor Niall Kirkwood in setting up the brand new Urban Design and Landscape Architecture programs in his undergraduate school, Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture; recently Mr. Qian was nominated as the International Research Associate of National Research Center of Rural Planning and Development of China. As well, Rui has been serving as the VP of UM Beijing Alumni Association, in charge of bridging Sino-US institutions. Practically, Rui has got internship or full-time experiences as an urban designer with Cooper Robertson and Partners, Goody Clancy and Associates, and besides, the professional experience with Urban Design Team and China Sustainability Center of AECOM Beijing Office, working directly with the studio leaders there, with a series of award winning projects in the biding or competitions. Prior to US, he was the teaching assistant of Dr. Qi Ding, Associate Professor in Urban Planning, Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, help leading the competitions and studios, where he is now working with Professor Roy Strickland to set up the first urban design program in the school as well as in the country. He is now also serving as the overseas editor for several professional magazines in China, writing critics of the contemporary architectural and urban trends in China, introducing American experiences, and professional practice trends to china.
